Die Hard is having a Good Day – Garnered $25 Million over the Weekend

A Good Day to Die HardBruce Willis starrer, fifth installment of the Die Hard series, ‘‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ ’ is finally having a good day. The movie occupied the top spot at the box office over the Friday- Sunday period garnering $25million. The movie Die Hard, made on a mammoth $90 million budget, earned just $8.2 million on the first day of its release. But after 4 days the movie managed to take home a decent $33.2 million.

‘A Good Day to Die Hard’, arguably the worst entry in to the Die Hard series, has been following the ill-fate of other action films released off late. The Last Stand, Bullet to the Head and Parker, all male-oriented action thrillers, have flopped. While the first quarter of 2013 has been good to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Mama, Identity Thief and more recently Warm Bodies. Incidentally, these hit movies have woman featuring in leading roles.

It remains to be seen if the latest in the Die Hard series has enough muscle to match the 2007 release ‘‘Live Free or Die Hard’’. In fact ‘Live Free or Die Hard’ earned $33.4 million in its opening three day weekend. But all is not lost for ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ as it has already earned more than the aforementioned flops. This movie has also performed very well in the overseas market earning $61.5 million over the weekend. This has brought the overall haul of ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ to $113.4 million.

In the battle for box office supremacy, ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ has fared relatively well edging out Melissa McCarthy starrer ‘Identity Thief’ ($23.4 million) to the second spot. ‘Safe Haven’ joined the ‘lesser-than-expected-performance’ club grossing a meager $21.4 million for the weekend finishing third in the Box Office Top Scorers list. Next in line at the fourth spot is the 3D animated family comedy, ‘Escape from Planet Earth’ with $16.1 million. ‘Warm Bodies’ and ‘Beautiful Creatures’ fought it out for the 5th and 6th spot earning $9 million and $7.5 million respectively.

While ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ may have had a good day, it is highly unlikely that such good times will continue for this Bruce Willis starrer flick.
